VTP 2009 > First International Workshop on Vehicular Technologies and Protocols

Call for papers

Recent advances in the wireless communications and networking technologies will significantly impact the design of intelligent cars and roads in order to make automobile operations safer and more efficient, and thereby, result in significant progress in the evolution of Intelligent Transportation Systems.
Researchers have recently oriented their efforts towards the enhancement of vehicular communications. In fact, wireless vehicular communications have proven to be a key technology for increasing road safety, intelligent data exchange services, and transport efficiency, and providing Internet access on the move to ensure wireless pervasive and ubiquitous connectivity.

The breakthrough advances of wireless communications technology and the growing interest in intelligent roads will enable vehicular safety applications (including collision and other safety warnings) as well as non-safety applications (like real-time traffic congestion and routing information, high-speed tolling, mobile infotainment, and many others).
It is anticipated that a single wireless access technology may not suit the needs of all vehicular communication applications, but a heterogeneous wireless networking platform needs to be developed and optimized.

Numerous exciting research challenges need to be addressed for designing heterogeneous wireless networking protocols for vehicular communication applications, enhancing quality of service and ensuring highly scalable, robust and secure vehicular networks.

The aim of this workshop is to present high-quality research papers that report the latest research advances and survey the-state-of-the-art in this fast developing field. Original papers are solicited in all aspects of vehicular communications, including physical layer issues, architectures, protocol designs, enabling technologies, theoretical studies, practical applications, and experimental prototypes.
